Fences by August Wilson

Review on The Play Fences by August Wilson

My word and text teacher has assigned an assignment on the play Fences by August Wilson. I have to admit when I first started reading the play I wasn't impressed. I thought it was going to be about a young African American boy who had a mean father and made it to the big times, but this book couldn’t be anymore opposite. The character Troy Maxson was a little rough at times, and yes, his pride was very strong causing him and son Cory Maxson to have a difficult father-son relationship. To me Troy was a tragic hero who let his pride get in the way of him providing love, support, and affection to his loved ones.

I personally enjoyed the play, and I would suggest to all my viewers if you are unfamiliar with it you to go and check it out. The theme of the characters will be worth your time!!
